Tapping History’s Perspective

There’s nothing like a long sit-down with someone who’s been through some history to put things in perspective.

Try listening to this Frontline interview with Maria Ressa from last year starting here for a few paragraphs for some perspective on the more recent events detailed in these New York Times articles about journalism in the Philippines: Maria Ressa arrest; journalist trolled by own government.

And listen to the same interview from here for a bit for some perspective on Facebook’s ongoing troubles, including those laid out in this this Times article about Federal investigations into Facebook.

On another subject, take a look at Barney Frank’s 2017 account of the US government’s knowledge and actions before, during and after the mortgage crisis starting here in this Duke University oral history. Frank’s insights are increasingly relevant today.
